Ian Walker gets results for Mansfield Locals

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

A CanDo LNP Government will spend $133,000 in its first term in office to erect flashing school zone safety lights on Ham Road outside Mansfield State School, as part of a range of measures announced today to support Mansfield locals.

LNP Candidate Ian Walker said he had fought hard in recent weeks to secure the flashing school zone lights for the crossing, after listening to the concerns of local residents and school families.

Trucks Keep Left scrapped on Mt Gravatt Capalaba Road

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

The much heralded trial of "keep left" lanes for trucks using Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Rd has been exposed as an abject failure.

In a recent letter to Shadow Main Roads Minister Dr Mark Robinson, Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace has confirmed that "the local community and industry were not in support of the trial" and that his department had recommended that "the 'trucks use left lane' signage be permanently removed".

Letter to the Editor - Yarranlea State School

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

It is a great shame that the State Government not only wasted tens of thousands of dollars attempting to "renovate" the Yarranlea State School without consulting parents or the Council, but jeopardised the heritage status of this building in the process.

I'll call this debacle for what it is - taxpayer-funded vandalism of a precious part of our early-settler heritage.

LNP won't proceed with controversial showground changes

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

Sports Minister and local member for Mansfield Phil Reeves has failed to get Labor's controversial legislation to mandate gender balance on the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds Trust through Parliament at its last sitting before the election, leaving it as a critical issue of concern to local residents during the election campaign.

In his response to the report of the parliamentary committee which examined the legislation, tabled on Parliament's last sitting day, Mr Reeves indicated he intended to proceed with the controversial changes.

LNP candidate for Mansfield Ian Walker has blasted the Bligh Government's culture of waste and bungling, after tens of thousands of dollars were spent "vandalising" one of Mansfield's important heritage buildings.

The Old Yarranlea State School – in the grounds of Griffith University – is a one-teacher schoolhouse dating from 1883 which operates as a working State School. It is heritage listed by the Brisbane City Council.

Walker calls on Reeves to respond

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

LNP candidate for Mansfield Ian Walker is calling on State MP Phil Reeves to respond to the parliamentary committee's report into his attempts to force gender equity on the members of the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds trust before any debate proceeds on the bill.

"Under the standing orders of the Parliament Mr Reeves has an obligation to respond to the committee's report by the 17th February, so the clock is ticking and the public has a right to know if he will listen to the parliament's concerns." Mr Walker said.

Walker to take the pledge to get QLD back on track

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

The LNP, led by Campbell Newman, is making a pledge to the people of Queensland that an LNP Government will get Queensland back on track.

The tired 20 year Labor Government has a track record littered with broken promises, waste and red tape.

Walker challenges Reeves to debate

Published in Metro South Written by Ian Walker

"Phil Reeves seems to have forgotten that Mansfield residents are struggling to pay their bills" LNP candidate for Mansfield Ian Walker said.

"Mr Reeves has spent his recent days in Parliament arguing against his own team over gender issues on the showground trust - and voting in support of same sex partnerships to Queensland." Mr Walker said. The private member's Bill introduced by Treasurer Andrew Fraser passed State Parliament Wednesday evening by a 47 to 40 margin. The LNP voted against the bill, but Phil Reeves and all but four Labor MPs voted in favour of the bill.

An all-party Parliamentary Committee has delivered an embarrassing rebuff to the Labor member for Mansfield Phil Reeves over his grab for power at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds Trust.
