Candidates run away from Labor brand

Welcome to Anna Bligh's 1984 electioneering newspeak where 'Labor' is not mentioned and union links and candidates' union work histories have been censored from their resumes.

Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls said Anna Bligh, Andrew Fraser and Labor were doing their upmost to hide the fact they were part of the Labor machine with cast-iron union links.

"The Labor brand is so toxic, it's never mentioned," Mr Nicholls said.

"Labor candidate links to unions and past jobs as ALP apparatchiks has been deleted by a long line-up of candidates," Mr Nicholls said.

"Look at the ALP candidates and their election material and profiles and you'd be hard-pressed to find any mention of Labor and union backgrounds.

"The most obvious is Kate Jones in Ashgrove and the material she's using – Labor's not there, not at all. She's obviously embarrassed by the Labor brand.

"Labor's website makes no mention of candidate for the Brisbane seat of Lytton Daniel Cheverton's work as a senior ministerial adviser for the Beattie and Bligh governments.  Why is he hiding his past?

"No mention on Labor's website either of the 10 years Labor's Logan candidate Linus Power spent as a Labor Party organiser – 'nothing to do with me', Mr Power claims.

"Meanwhile, the Union Shopper boss Brett Mc Creadie who's standing in Beaudesert is listed as heading a 'not-for-profit-organisation' and AWU official Jim Wilson, who's running in Lockyer – is listed as a training officer with an industrial organisation."

Mr Nicholls said Labor and its candidates must be so ashamed of the ALP brand and their union connections that it is being deliberately hidden from voters.

"The LNP is committed to open and accountable government.

"It's time for a change. It's time to get Queensland back on track."
