"Australia is the world's third-largest sugar exporter and Queensland's second largest agricultural commodity – generating $1.3 billion for our state's economy each year," Mr Newman said.
"Sugar employs more than 15,000 Queenslanders directly and indirectly supports a further 70,000 jobs – the LNP will work with industry to drive this iconic industry even further.
"A CanDo LNP government will support research and development in the sugar industry by providing an additional $4.6 million over four years to BSES, the principal provider of R&D to the sugarcane industry.
"This additional funding will restore the level of funding to that received prior to cuts made by the tired, 20-year Labor government.
"This funding will complement the industry's own $21 million annual investment and provide certainty as the industry undergoes a major review of its R&D structures.
"This is a real commitment to support the growth of the sugar industry and the families and the communities that the industry supports," Mr Newman said.
"Only the LNP understands the need to revitalise our frontline services and invest in science and technology.
"Only the LNP has a 2040 vision to double agricultural production, one of the four pillars of our economy.
"As part of this vision, the LNP will restore agriculture as a standalone department with strong leadership and direction.
"It's time for a change. It's time to get Queensland back on track," Mr Newman said.
