The Waste Tax is another blatant broken election promise from the Bligh Labor Government. Before the last election Labor promised it would not introduce a Waste Tax, but they still did, just like their lies about not introducing a fuel tax, selling assets and not sacking public servants.
Yet again Queenslanders have to dig into their pockets to pay for Labor having lied its way into power.
This $35 a tonne tax on commercial, industrial, construction and demolition waste will destroy jobs and hit small businesses hard with additional costs.
It is estimated that the Waste Tax will add more than $3000 a year to the cost of running a medium-sized restaurant, for example.
Labor's Waste Tax will punish hospitality and tourism in Queensland at a time when both sectors are struggling and many operators are going to the wall.
Businesses and household budgets are already struggling with Labor's soaring electricity and water costs, higher state taxes and charges on everything from fuel to licence fees.
Queensland doesn't need taxes that hit the very sectors responsible for economic activity and job creation.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry has found most businesses are willing to support recycling and sound environmental practices, however most businesses believe they have little to no opportunity to increase their recycling and recovery capacity.
In short, Queensland businesses need support – not another tax.
Only the LNP can deliver change, and get Queensland back on track.
The LNP will:
